Mosquitoes

Elise: "I just saw a mosquito in the house!! Kaleb, are mosquitoes dangerous?"

Kaleb: "No."

Mom: "Yes, sometimes they can be. They suck your blood and can give you diseases."

... children run to the bookshelf and get Deadly Creatures Dictionary from Scholastic...

Elise starts reading about mosquitoes, that the females suck blood to help them lay eggs and they can carry deadly diseases like malaria.

Kaleb: "Mom, what is malaria? Like, what does it do to you?"

Mom: "I'm not sure, I just know it can kill you. Let's look it up."

Now the kids are reading and talking about other Deadly Creatures, and if they've seen them or not, whether or not we live in North America, and creatures they've read about in books.

And that's how our homeschool day is going so far. :)
